Retail Sales fall in September, but not as Expected
Consumers are still reluctant to open their wallets as the recession wears on, but not as reluctant as economists had thought, according to a new report by CNN.
Following August’s sales increase boosted by the Cash for Clunkers program, sales across retail fell by 1.5% last month; economists predicted a 2.1% drop.
Excluding the auto sector, sales rose 0.5% in September from August, beating the 0.2% rise economists predicted.
The modest growth above expectations shows that more consumers are finding their footing in the current economic climate.
